I was in the food service industry most of my life. After a few hiccups along the way I was in search of a forever job, a job that offered more than just good pay. Although most of my female role models during my upbringing were caregivers, I had never seen myself in that role. When I came across Home Instead I was a little on the outs about a job as a caregiver. After a lot of thought I decided to take the leap. I applied shortly thereafter and scheduled my interview. When I arrived I was excited to see an office full of happy employees. The office staff had a vibe of caring and love for their jobs, their clients, and their caregivers. After my interview I was all in. I was nervous my first day but quickly got into a groove with my clients. Every shift is different but the office staff works hard to match you with the right client. Working for Home Instead has helped me become a better person and further my education. They care about their employees and help us reach our goals even if that is outside of the company. They really have gone above and beyond for me and my coworkers. I love being a caregiver because I can be a superhero to my clients and their families. Today marks three months since I start working for Home Instead. Three month and I still love my job. But, here's the thing. I don't consider it a job. It's more of finally doing something for someone else, being there for them. Listening to what they need and want. Building relationships with others. I have made more friends in these three months then at any other place I have been. I have finally found what I have been looking for in a career. Yes, there is heartache, but there is so much joy in getting to know these dear people. The stories I have heard, the laughter, the tears. I never once thought I would enjoy being a caregiver, but I do. It’s a very rewarding job. I don't think I could ever go back to working in retail, fast food, or any other places I've worked.
