Susan Gill, who has been a CNA or caregiver since 1994, has found a home at Home Instead® of Victoria, an award-winning senior-care franchise owned by Pietro Jordao and Dillon Rice.
“I got laid off from my former job, where I had worked since 2015. Reflecting on what had been going on, I had gone through a lot of challenges and was working while my hours were getting cut,” Susan explained. “So, I saw Home Instead online and decided to apply. After filling out the application, they were ready to send me out.”
The Home Instead office staff knew that Susan would be an asset from the beginning. Susan’s senior-care experience also has included family caregiving. “My mom had Alzheimer’s disease. It was hard, but I took care of her when I visited her in Florida. I finally had to put her in a nursing home, and she passed away in 2007,” Susan said.
Susan has been a CAREGiver with Home Instead since Nov. 9, 2020. In March 2021, Recruiting and Retention Coordinator Maegan Coldewey announced that Susan had been honored as CAREGiver of the Month for the franchise.
In addition to her strong companionship skills, Susan provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Susan and other CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, dementia support, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, CAREGivers not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.
For Susan, touching lives impacts her soul, whether she’s providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if she is offering emotional support in a companionship role. Asked what brings her the most fulfillment, Susan said, “I just like the Home Instead staff and our clients.”
Susan loves being a part of the CAREGiver team for the Victoria franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Paul and Lori Hogan. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for seniors, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide more than 80 million hours of care annually throughout the U.S. and 13 other countries.
Susan is among more than 90,000 CAREGivers worldwide, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead’s purpose. It isn’t hard to see Susan lives the Home Instead® principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”
