Hailey McKenna was boldly headed toward major changes in her life. As 2021 melted into 2022, she began looking for jobs after moving about 2,000 miles from New Hampshire to Texas. During an online job search, Hailey zeroed in on Home Instead® of Victoria, an award-winning franchise owned by Pietro Jordao and Dillon Rice. It was a fortunate stroke of serendipity for both Hailey and Home Instead.
Recruiting and Retention Coordinator Maegan Coldewey hired Hailey on Jan. 26. Less than eight months later, Maegan honored Hailey as the Home Instead franchise’s Care Professional of the Month. “I knew I wanted to be a caregiver. I didn’t have any experience as a professional caregiver, but I knew I would like it. I had taken care of my grandmother as she got older,” Hailey said.
Among the considerations for reaching Care Pro of the Month status, an employee has shown he or she has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Hailey embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” Focusing on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped Hailey Ruby achieve Care Pro of the Month status.
In addition to her strong companionship skills, Hailey provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. She offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, Hailey not only assists the franchise’s clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.
To build on their knowledge and experience, Hailey and other Care Pros are offered the opportunity to increase their dementia-care skills by taking part in the Home Instead network’s one-of-a-kind training protocol. Home Instead’s Person-Centered Care Training for Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association® for incorporating the evidence-based dementia-care practice recommendations in these topic areas: Alzheimer’s and dementia, person-centered care, assessment and care planning, activities of daily living, and behaviors and communication.
“I love that I can help someone stay in his or her house and feel comfortable. I feel as if I’m really making a difference in their lives,” Hailey said. “I have a wonderful client right now. He is always making me laugh and keeping me on my toes. He’s teaching me some Spanish.”
Hailey embraces her role on the Care Pro team for the Victoria franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pro across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
