Clarissa Garza couldn’t have known at age 18 she’d be headed toward a successful senior-care career. Clarissa thought she’d be helping her aunt and grandmother, which seemed at the time as no big deal. Once she got going with the care, Clarissa remembers the experience this way: “I enjoyed every moment with them.” She added: “As a result of that family-caregiving assistance, I’ve been doing this kind of work for going on 15 years.”
Four months after joining Home Instead of Victoria, Clarissa was honored as the award-winning franchise’s CAREGiver of the Month for November. Recruitment and Retention Coordinator Maegan Coldewey made the announcement on behalf of franchise co-owners Dillon Rice and Pietro Jordao.
Clarissa found Home Instead online. When she put in her Home Instead job application, Clarissa was impressed by her first contact with the Home Instead managers. She pointed out: “I met the entire office staff, and they were friendly.”
Clarissa also liked Home Instead’s focus because she has always felt the same way. “This type of work has been my passion. I knew I would enjoy the job because I love what I do. Throughout the years, I have learned so much about helping people,” Clarissa said.
Clarissa’s wealth of experience and take-charge attitude promote her franchise clients’ confidence in her care, and yet they also are comfortable with her because of her compassionate and empathetic touch. It isn’t hard to see Clarissa lives the Home Instead principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” Clarissa added: “I love being able to help my client with the different challenges he may face.”
Clarissa is a great listener, an aspect of caregiving that is important to seniors. “I love hearing all the interesting stories and looking at all of the pictures my client has. He has stories behind each picture, and I enjoy each one of them,” Clarissa said.
Clarissa is among more than 100,000 CAREGivers worldwide, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead’s purpose and core values. Those core values are: “Honor God in all we do; Treat each other with dignity and respect; Encourage growth in ourselves and others; Build value in our service to others.”
