Franklin March 2021 Client & CAREGiver Spotlight - Ina Maize & Kayla Brewer
Meet March’s Client and Professional CAREGiver Spotlight team of Ina Maize and Kayla Brewer. Ina Maize lives in Spring Hill, TN. She has Parkinson’s and Dementia. Kayla started taking care of Ms. Maize before she was total care, so their relationship has a very strong unique bond made up of trust, compassion, and heart. Ms. Maize cannot talk anymore and is mostly bed bound, but she still smiles when Kayla walks in the door.
When Kayla first started assisting Mrs. Maize in July 2020, they enjoyed their time together laughing while folding laundry or going for walks together. They enjoyed binge watching “Anne with an E” and “Call the Midwife”. Kayla is much younger than Mrs. Maize, so Mrs. Maize has always looked at her as one of her own grandchildren. Kayla loves to tell the story about the first time she ever drove Mrs. Maize to the Chiropractor. Kayla starts the story with “I’m not a bad driver, but Mrs. Maize looks at me like she does her grandchildren. Anyway, we drove there and back, and Mrs. Maize was wide eyed and silent the whole drive, I know she was silently critiquing everything I was doing!”
With Mrs. Maize’s decline in condition some days are better than others, but on bad days Kayla sings “Run around Sue”, “Brown Eyed Girl”, and “Hound Dog”. Kayla also sings to Mrs. Maize while helping her shower and getting her dressed every day. These two started off as strangers and now have a bond full of love that shows through Mrs. Maize’s eyes and smile and through Kayla’s heartfelt caring for her. We are so happy that Ms. Maize has Kayla by her side and that she can live safely at “Home Instead”.
