Autum Finds Blessing as Care Professional
Autum Martin was doing well as an assistant store manager for than a year, but something pulled on her heartstrings after she visited with a Home Instead® employee who works at the award-winning Mount Airy franchise.
Autum recalled: “The Home Instead employee told me so many good things that I decided to give it a go with them. I applied a few days later, and the following week I got the job. I am truly blessed to be with Home Instead.”
That was in the middle of February 2022. Five short months later, Staff Coordinator Sharon Bledsoe announced that Autum had been honored as Care Professional of the Month for the 11-year-old franchise that’s owned by Van and Ann Lankford. Sharon said: “I think Autum is an absolutely great asset, a member of the new generation of Care Pros.”
Among considerations for earning Care Pro of the Month status, an employee has shown he or she has gone beyond the call of duty when circumstances required it. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Autum embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”
Focusing on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped Autum become a Care Pro of the Month. For Autum and her fellow Care Pros, touching lives impacts their souls, whether they are providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if they are offering emotional support in a companionship role.
Autum has a natural instinct for caregiving, and it suits her well. “As a family caregiver, I have taken care of both a grandparent and a parent. Being able to help both has been an honor,” Autum said.
As far as working with seniors on behalf of Home Instead, Autum said: “I like being able to help my clients feel as comfortable as possible and helping them in any way I can. It makes me so happy to see my clients happy and being able to bond with them is heartwarming.”
Autum loves the added work benefit of listening intently to her clients’ wisdom and historical analysis. “I hear all kinds of stories from my clients, but the favorite stories that emanate from them are the stories where they talk about their childhood and all the things they used to do for fun. I also love hearing how different things were during the period of history when they were growing up and while contrasting how things are now,” Autum said.
Autum loves her role on her Care Pro team for the North Carolina franchise, a member of the highly successful Honor and Home Instead network. Honor is the world’s largest home care network with the most advanced care platform, revolutionizing how society cares for older adults, their families and Care Professionals. Honor acquired Home Instead in 2021, and the combined company supports the work of more than 100,000 Care Professionals across 13 countries and meets the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
