Honoree Amy Wanted an Opportunity ‘to Make a Difference’
Family members were involved in nearly every aspect of Amy Holt’s journey as her virtuous career of assisting people moved in 2024 to Home Instead® of Mount Airy. That’s where Amy has been honored as a Care Professional of the Month by the award-winning franchise owned by Van and Ann Lankford.
Amy, who has been with Home Instead for only two months, learned about the 13-year-old franchise from her sister-in-law. Long before that, Amy already had dipped her toes in the heartwarming, empathetic caregiving waters as a family caregiver.
“When I was younger,” Amy explained, “I assisted my Aunt Ann with her housekeeping and cooking because of her declining health. Through my aunt, as well as other family members, I have personally experienced the need for caregivers and have seen the difference that even the simplest of assistance or companionship can make.” With Home Instead, Amy said: “I wanted an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.”
With Home Instead, Amy hit the ground running because of all of the experience she had accumulated. “I have been in healthcare for the past 20 years,” Amy pointed out. “I began as a CNA and later became the rehabilitation technician in the therapy department. I am a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and worked primarily with the geriatric population doing therapy for 12 years. Then I switched paths and worked as a healthcare ambassador for two years with Landmark Health.”
It was no surprise when the Home Instead staff announced Amy’s Care Pro of the Month honor. Staff members cited Amy’s work as an example of Home Instead’s core values, which are “Treat each other with dignity and respect, encourage growth in ourselves and others, and continually build value in our service to others.” In addition, Amy epitomizes Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build trust, take the lead and share your heart.”
While praising Amy’s efforts, Home Instead staff members added: “Home Instead’s mission is to enhance the lives of aging adults and their families, and to pioneer greater professionalism within care work. That’s why we’ve created a care experience that’s based on human touch, transparency and compassion.”
Furthermore, focusing on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped Amy achieve Care Pro of the Month status.
Amy was quick to note: “The thing I enjoy most about my job is having the privilege to not only make a difference in someone’s life through even the simplest of tasks but to also have that one-on-one experience after getting a chance to really know your client and spend time with him or her. One of my favorite Home Instead client stories was when the client told me about his childhood. He mentioned that, after they milked the cow, they would sit the milk down in the spring water in their spring house, which is a small building built over a spring on a farm that serves as a cool storage space. It was at that spring house where a bullfrog got after him.”
The clients’ stories are among the reasons why Amy loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the Surry County franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pros across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
