CAREGiver of the Month - Connie B.

Written By: Brian Lahm for Home Instead of Clearwater

Connie Was an Instant Hit With Home Instead

A Home Instead® client and CAREGiver of the Month Connie Brown instantly bonded after Connie joined the award-winning franchise that serves Midland and Odessa. Connie’s client lights up when she sees Connie come through the door, and she loves to go for walks in the park with Connie.

Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Imelda Hawkins was not surprised by Connie’s immediate connection with the client. “Connie came to us May 27, 2020, and has made a very big impact on her clients,” said Imelda, who announced Connie’s December CAREGiver of the Month honor.

“Connie is always ready to take on new assignments and eagerly wants to know every detail about her clients. Connie is a soft-spoken, gentle soul who always puts her clients’ needs at the forefront of her day,” said Imelda, a member of the leadership team for the franchise that has grown under the ownership of William Shensky and Lorena Garza Shensky. William and Lorena took the franchise reins in March 2020.

Imelda, herself a CAREGiver of the Month in 2015 before joining the Home Instead staff, pointed out that Connie is an experienced family caregiver. “Connie is blessed to have a twin sister, and both have been active in caring for their elderly parents,” Imelda said.

Broaching the subject of family caregiving, Connie praised Home Instead by saying, “The scheduling is so flexible. One reason I like doing this work – besides helping the clients – is that being a CAREGiver gives me time off to help take care of my parents.”

While helping her parents, Connie also personally knows the aches and pains that many seniors feel. She explained: “I had knee surgery nearly three months before I joined Home Instead. I had been a cook in several child day-care facilities and was looking for something different and less stressful on my knees. When I was looking online, I found Home Instead,” Connie added: “What I like most as a Home Instead CAREGiver is making a difference in the lives of my clients. I liked the training, and it was very helpful. Communication with the staff is good, and I can always reach someone when needed.”

Imelda said: “We absolutely love Connie! It’s a joy to have her as part of our team because she demonstrates our core values.” Those core values are: Honor God in all we do; Treat each other with dignity and respect; Encourage growth in ourselves and others; Build value in our service to others.” In addition to the core values, it’s easy to see Connie also lives the Home Instead principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”

Connie loves being a part of the CAREGiver team for the William and Lorena’s Midland-Odessa franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Paul and Lori Hogan. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for seniors, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide more than 70 million hours of care annually throughout the U.S. and 13 other countries.

Home Instead CAREGivers, who are screened, trained, bonded and insured, provide a variety of in-home support services to help keep seniors independent.
