Family Caregiving Was Perfect Proving Ground for Gina
Home Instead® Care Professional of the Month Gina Guynes’ approach to senior care is always the same: Provide help as if the person is a family member. Sometimes the object of Gina’s care has been a family member, and sometimes her patience has been put to a test.
“As an unpaid family caregiver, I cared for my mother, who had dementia. While I was caring for her one day, I was crocheting and she was watching me. She got up and asked me if she could try. I said yes and handed her the yarn and such. She then proceeded to take apart all I had done. She was so tickled she’d done that. It’s one of my favorite memories,” Gina said with a laugh.
Gina added: “I find immense satisfaction in my job. I especially enjoy the cranky ones.”
Home Instead staff member Imelda Hawkins focused on Gina’s patience, empathy and compassion in the face of challenging times that inevitably arise. “Gina exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated caregiver. To those for whom Gina cares, her passion, understanding and genuine commitment shines through in everything she does,” said Imelda, the franchise’s Human Resources Director, Assistant Administrator and Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator.
Imelda effusively praised Gina, who found Home Instead on Indeed.com. “Not only is Gina a valued Home Instead Care Professional, but she is also the daughter of one of our clients. Her father lives in San Angelo, and Gina lives in Andrews. Other Care Pros help him on behalf of Home Instead because Andrews and San Angelo are 150 miles apart. I’d like to point out that Gina brings a unique perspective and deep personal connection to her work. Her ability to embrace both her professional duties and personal role as a family caregiver makes her an extraordinary asset to our team,” Imelda said.
Furthermore, Imelda said: “Gina always has been consistent. She started with Home Instead in June 2022, had to leave for a little while and was back with us a few months later. We are glad she returned. To Gina, I say: “Congratulations, and thank you for your outstanding service!”
