Family Tie Put Ruth in Line for Care Pro Job
For Ruth Guevara, a beautiful connection with the award-winning Home Instead® of Midland-Odessa seemed inevitable.
Ruth’s father-in-law is a Veterans Administration client who employs Care Professionals from the Home Instead franchise that’s been owned by Lorena and William Shensky since March 2020. Imelda Hawkins serves as the Home Instead office’s assistant administrator, as well as the recruitment and engagement coordinator. Imelda hired Ruth as a Care Pro. Months later, Imelda announced Ruth had been honored as the franchise’s Care Pro of the Month for June.
Discussing Ruth’s Home Instead hiring process, Imelda explained: “The experience Ruth had gained from helping for her father-in-law as an unpaid family caregiver and at other places where she has worked put her in prime consideration when we were looking for an experienced Care Pro to help us with a bedbound specialized client.”
Referring to Ruth’s client, Imelda said: “Even though he lives outside the Midland-Odessa area, Ruth makes the drive to care for him. Ruth has gained the respect of the client’s mother, who is very protective of him. Everything Ruth has done certainly has more than lined up with our criteria for being honored as our Care Pro of the Month.”
Among the considerations for achieving Care Pro of the Month status, an employee has shown he or she has gone above and beyond the call of duty, Imelda pointed out. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Ruth embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” Furthermore, Ruth’s focus on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving helped her achieve the Care Pro of the Month award.
In addition to her strong companionship skills, Ruth provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Ruth offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, Ruth and her fellow Midland-Odessa Care Pros not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.
To build on their knowledge and experience, Ruth and other Midland-Odessa Care Pros are offered the opportunity to increase their dementia-care skills by taking part in the Home Instead network’s one-of-a-kind training protocol. Home Instead’s Person-Centered Care Training for Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association® for incorporating the evidence-based dementia-care practice recommendations in these topic areas: Alzheimer’s and dementia, person-centered care, assessment and care planning, activities of daily living, and behaviors and communication.
Ruth loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the West Texas/Permian Basin franchise, a member of the highly successful Honor and Home Instead network. Honor is the world’s largest home care network with the most advanced care platform, revolutionizing how society cares for older adults, their families and Care Professionals. Honor acquired Home Instead in 2021, and the combined company supports the work of more than 100,000 Care Professionals across 13 countries and meets the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
“Ruth truly goes above and beyond and has the energy of a 5-year-old, and that amazes us every day! Home Instead is fortunate to have Ruth on our team,” Imelda said.
