Clarksville April 2021 Client & CAREGiver Spotlight - Joel R. & Michael "Shane" R.
Meet the April Clarksville Client and Professional CAREGiver℠ team of Joel R. and his caregiver, Shane R. Joel lived in Minneapolis, where he was a city bus driver, driving double length buses. He came to Clarksville after he retired and has been here about 8 years. Joel was stationed at Fort Campbell as a young man and became a paratrooper. He has been stationed in Okinawa, Japan and fought in the Vietnam war. One of his positions included operating a cannon that took 10 men to fire. He enjoys still being close to his old training grounds and can even hear bomb practice daily at his home!
Shane was a commercial truck driver and decided he wanted to give back after taking care of his father until his last days. He is honoring his father by providing the best care he can to his clients. He and Mr. Joel like to watch old Western and assassin movies together. They also like to take walks around Lake Barkley. Mr. Joel has a daily routine where he goes to a restaurant for three hours in the morning, eating his breakfast there. The owner will pack Mr. Joel’s dinner to take home with him, for free.
At the end of his shift, Shane will not say goodbye to Mr. Joel, instead patting him on the shoulder and saying, “See you later”. Mr. Joel will tell Shane to “be safe”. It is truly an honor to see such a relationship bloom and we are so grateful that Shane Shares His Heart with Mr. Joel!
