July 2021 Professional CAREGiver of the Month - Tabathea W.
Congratulations, Tabathea Willet, for being our CAREGiver of the Month for July! Tabby is a lovely person inside and out. You’ll recognize that as you read about her.
Where were you born? I was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Muldrow, Oklahoma.
How long have you worked at HISC? I have worked for Home Instead for one year.
What’s your favorite part of caregiving? ? I have always loved being able to help others. When my 1st grandmother was put in a nursing home it hurt that I couldn't take care of her, luckily by the time my other grandma was placed in one 8yrs later, I had my CNA license and was able to get a job at the same nursing home with her. I was always afraid I would get too attached and not be able to handle it. However, I learned I could and have loved being able to help others just like I wanted my grandmothers taken care of.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am 44 years old and have been married to the love of my life, Chris, for 24 yrs. Even though we have no biological children, we do have three “adopted” kids. Their names are Carl, Christi, and Jazmine and we have 2 granddaughters, Aurora and Mia. Jazmine though we raised from the age of 5 months and had legal guardianship of. We also have 4 fur babies, all dogs. B.J., Stetson, Samson, and Sassie.
Ever since childhood I have always been social and very compassionate towards infants and the elderly. I started out working for Wal-Mart my senior year in high school and worked for them 3 different times for a total of 7 years. Then I was finally able to work in a daycare. There I attended CASC and received a Certificate of Mastery in Childcare and later earned my Directors Credentials with a total of 9 years taking care of "my other babies.” In between working my last time for Wal-Mart and a break in childcare is when I obtained my CNA license, which I had for 2 years in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Working in a nursing home setting I didn't like the inability of being able to give my residents the more personal care they deserved. That's what I love about being with Home Instead--I am now able to provide that level of personal care. Even though I love and miss my babies, I have never been happier at a job than I am now! Thank you Home Instead for being a great place to work.
