Christmas is coming and that means sharing time and treasure with loved ones, especially those in senior care. North Hollywood, CA families can rely on the licensed, bonded, compassionate elderly care professionals of Home Instead to take care of their loved one.

But there’s always that quality time with family that is so important around the holidays. And what better way to spend that time than doing fun and simple crafts? Your Home Instead of North Hollywood, CA senior day care specialist can help with any of these also.

Crafts done with seniors should be easy to do, especially if your loved one receives arthritis care for seniors. Sore joints make crafting less-fun. Also, sometimes if dementia elderly care is the order of the day, then the older loved one may struggle with the crafts. But if younger hands can and sharper minds can do the more intricate parts, then the experienced hands can handle the easier parts, and everyone can have a quality day.

So, what sorts of crafts can be done? Well, some turn out to be Christmas tree ornaments. Some are little things you can stand on a side table or a wall shelf with other accent pieces. Then there are wreaths, and other interesting trinkets that loved ones will cherish forever.

The first idea is simple snowflakes cut out from decorative cupcake cups. Just flatten out the cup, fold it in half a few times and make some interesting cuts. Unfold, and voila! A unique and lovely decoration to hang from the ceiling, a doorway, or the tree.

For larger snowflakes, use coffee filters instead of cupcake cups!

Another cute idea is pinecone Christmas trees. You’ll need pinecones and bottle corks, like from wine bottles. Simply attach the end of the cork to the center of the bottom of the pinecone, then paint the pinecone green and dribble it with glitter.

Another very easy craft that inspires creativity is just cutting out shapes of Christmas trees from white or green construction paper, then decorating them with ribbon, pipe cleaners, buttons, pom poms, glitter, crayons, colored pencils, markers, or whatever else strikes your fancy. If you put a hole in the top and then put a loop of ribbon, they can then be hung all around the house to add a festive touch.

Have fun this Christmas season with easy and memorable crafts that the whole family will enjoy! And share some quality time with your loved one, whether they are in hospice care, senior day care, or just living with residential assisted living in North Hollywood, CA.
