Few things say “summer fun” like a flick about the beach, friends having fun, couples mistaking who’s with whom, and some rollicking dancing, surfing, and fight scenes. These can be nostalgic for those in elderly care. North Hollywood, CA residents no doubt have their own memories of the first time they saw Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon soaking in some rays.
Well, that same fun can be reclaimed all these years later. And here are some great flicks that deserve another look with your in-home caregiver or senior companion. North Hollywood, CA, as it happens, has a great elderly caregiver agency near me with Home Instead. Contact their licensed, trained, and bonded CAREGivers today for an in-home assessment, and to ask them what their favorite movies are.
And if one of the following isn’t on the list, invite them in to share a cultural experience! A new friend is just one film away!
The first film we’ll mention for your residential assisted living viewing pleasure is Gidget Goes Hawaiian. The irrepressible Gidget is bummed that her parents are forcing her to go to Hawaii for two weeks. (I know, right?) The problem is it’s at the same time that her beau is back from college. Once in Hawaii she peels away the boyfriend of another girl. And then when her own beau suddenly appears and finds he’s lost her (or so he thinks), he starts stepping out with the new guy’s original gal… got it? Hilarity ensues, with surfing, sand, and sun, before Gidget and her guy finally get back together in that tropical paradise. Whew!
Our second movie is the one that started it all in 1963: Beach Party. For the first time Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, and their friends frolic along the coast as a professor studies the behavior of this younger set. An unexpected crush, an outlaw biker gang, and some jealousy lead to hilarious situations and a satisfying ending. The “beach party” genre grew out of this unexpected hit, but Beach Party started it all, and if you’re the sort of person who needs elderly care services near North Hollywood, CA you’ve probably seen this one before — but it’s always fun to relive the classics!
A third great summer classic is the Haley Mills classic of mixed identity and trickery, The Parent Trap. Haley Mills plays both identical twins whose parents divorced and who were thus separated early enough that neither knew they had a twin. But unbeknownst to their parents, they are reunited when they are sent to the same summer camp. The twins overcome their initial tensions to conspire to get their parents back together. The filming and casting tricks used to have Haley Mills play two parallel roles in this film caused a sensation at the time — a feat easily accomplished in our days of CGI.
Many other films could give that burst of summer sun to your sitting room. Enjoy some nostalgia, invite a friend, or make a new one — like a compassionate, trained, licensed, and bonded CAREGiver from Home Instead.
