Sunshine on a Cloudy Day? That’s Faith
“I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
“When it’s cold outside
“I’ve got the month of May
“I guess you’d say
“What can make me feel this way”
A Home Instead® client borrowed from the first line of the Temptations’ 1964 Motown golden oldie hit single, “My Girl,” one day when he happily greeted CAREGiver of the Month Faith LeGassey. The client told his Home Instead CAREGiver, “Faith, you are a ray of sunshine on a very dark, cloudy day.” So what did Faith do? She instinctively flashed that smile that lights up any room.
“I have so many stories, but that client’s greeting is one of my favorites. The things I like most about my job are walking into my client’s home and seeing the smiles, and I also like having the opportunity to work one-on-one with my clients,” Faith said.
Referring to the Home Instead guiding principles, Engagement Coordinator/CNA Darla Corah said: “Faith really does build trust, takes the lead and shares her heart. Faith is super sweet and kind with all of her seniors. She has two regular clients and also does fill-in shifts when they are needed. During one such shift, she was due to leave at 10 p.m., and her replacement called out. Faith stayed and took the next shift but said she didn’t have her own blanket, so our administrative staff took her a throw blanket with which she just fell in love. It was a win all the way around.”
Pointing to the award-winning Home Instead franchise that serves Mooresville, Statesville and Taylorsville and the surrounding areas, Faith said: “I have been working with Home Instead just shy of a year. I found Home Instead while searching online for jobs in my area. I submitted an application for the CAREGiver position and received a call for an interview the day after applying. I was hired within a week and started working with these amazing clients.”
The Home Instead CAREGiver position has been an excellent fit for Faith. “Throughout my life, my jobs have always been people-related because I am a people-person. I have worked as a nanny-household manager, CAREGiver, nursing assistant and babysitter,” Faith explained.
Faith also served as a family caregiver when she was young. “When my grandmother was unable to care for herself, my mom decided to have her mom move into our home and care for her. I was able to help my mother manage my grandmother’s activities of daily living. I also visited my great-aunt and helped her around the house,” Faith recalled.
Faith assisted her great-aunt with many of the responsibilities that Home Instead CAREGivers carry out during each shift, including safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. For Home Instead, Faith and other CAREGivers offer personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, dementia support, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility assistance. By expertly doing so, CAREGivers not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.
For Faith, touching lives impacts her soul, whether she’s providing physical help or if she is offering emotional support in a companionship role. She loves being a part of the CAREGiver team for co-owners Tracey and Creighton Gibson’s franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Paul and Lori Hogan. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for seniors, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide more than 80 million hours of care annually throughout the U.S. and 13 other countries.
