Creighton Gibson

Creighton Gibson, Franchise Owner

I am self employed now after working for J.C. Steele and Sons for 16 years, after going through years of health issues with my mother and father I took a big leap of faith and started this business.

Home Instead, we are independently owned and operated, but we are the largest non-medical provider of companionship and help for the elderly in the world. There are over 20 offices in N.C. and over 1,100 offices world wide, in Canada, USA and Japan. All of our Care Professionals are thoroughly screened, trained and bonded, they are my employees and I pay all taxes, workman compensation and we also require a minimum of six references and we do a criminal background check and driving record check.

I will always take my Care Professionals to the client the first time to ensure the most peace of mind and this also makes the meeting as stress free as possible.

Heather Oland, Office Coordinator

Heather Oland, General Manager

Hello! I have been with Home Instead since May of 2016. I have an extensive background in Health Care, gaining experience from many different environments ranging from Home Care, ALF, Alzheimer's Units, Geri psych and Correctional Facilities. My journey brought me back to Home Care because I am an avid believer in "aging in comfort". I have active involvement in our Alzheimer's association team "To Us It's Personal",  the Statesville Leading Ladies Group through the Statesville Chamber of Commerce as well as serving on the board of the Greater Statesville Rotary Club as secretary. I am also a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America where I advocate for my daughter with hearing impairment. When I am not servicing our senior community, I can always be found along side of those I love most, kayaking, fishing or cheering along the side lines of a baseball, soccer or softball game.

Deborah Hillard RN

Deborah Hillard, RN, BSN, Director of Client Care

I have always wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl. I think it was just second nature for me. I used to pretend I was taking my father's Vital Signs with my little nurse's kit. Great fun! Throughout the years my interest grew into something more serious. For me the most important and underlying facet of my nursing career has been nursing as a mission and career that started as a Candy Striper at the age of 13 and Nurse's Aide at age 14. I had the unique opportunity to witness my first baby being born at 14 and my first dying patient during nursing school at 17. I attended Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in St Louis Missouri for my 3 yr Diploma as a student in the last 3 yr class at that hospital-based school. I joined the Air Force Nurse Corp after a year working at Barnes in neuro-medicine, met my husband and lived in Germany for 6 years, had 2 wonderful sons Mark and Erik. Traveled the world so to speak. I also attended Valdosta State College in Valdosta Georgia to receive my BSN Degree prior to going overseas. The experiences I have had as a nurse have certainly been unique anywhere from Medical Surgical, Pediatric, Neuro- medicine, US Air Force Nurse Corp, Red Cross Volunteer teaching Hypertension at the base clinic, physical assessments of children in a very remote village called Chermaitre Haiti with the Vassar Haiti Project, to home care. When I moved to New York I decided I wanted to try something different and decided to apply for a Nurse Case Manager's position at Fishkill Health Inc, in Beacon NY, later known as Elant. Little did I know that that decision was going to greatly influence my career path for the next 26 years. Home Care gave me the opportunity to use a wide variety of skills on a more one-to-one basis which is what most nurses like. I have worked in the capacity of a nurse case manager, clinical coordinator, and Director of a Long Term Home Health Care Program. When people ask me why I moved to Statesville, I tell them I moved to be closer to my son who is in Charleston and I have a friend who also moved here. If you ask me why I chose Home Instead, I will tell you I was impressed with the focus of this agency right from the very beginning. "To us ,it's personal" and that is exactly the way I see my chosen career path, nursing as a mission.

My name is Kayla and for most of my life I’ve been a CAREGiver, even before knew what the word really meant I was taking care of those
close to me. My grandparents helped me discover the passion I had for taking care of those in my community and they shared with me, that God has a purpose for us and its our job to fulfill that purpose and I pray I can continue to do so with HIS never-ending compassion and understanding.

Valerie Mills RN

Valerie Mills, RN, Client Care Coordinator

Hello! I am a UNC-Charlotte Bachelor of Science Registered Nurse who absolutely loves to educate and empower individuals to optimize their total state of health – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. In the year 2000 I began studying Natural Health to resolve some health challenges that originated during infancy. Since then I have completed a Doctor of Natural Health degree, Certification of Natural Health Professional, Professional Herbalism, Graduate Certification in Nutrition, Clinical Herbalism, and Nutritional Therapy. I resigned from the acute hospital setting role as Educator / eLearning Specialist in 2016 to pursue my passion to work in Natural Health & Wellness. Prior to arriving to Home Instead Senior Care, I was functioning as a True Cellular Detox Nutrition Coach in a functional nutrition clinic.

So how did I arrive to Home Instead Senior Care? That is a great question! In the process of now building my Education Wellness Coaching practice, HISC affords the opportunity to have flexible hours, hear great stories from the clients, and work with a team of amazing people.

I enjoy riding go-karts, playing laser tag, mowing the lawn with my zero turn lawn mower, working in my raised-bed gardens, and best of all – spending time with my family.
