Julie Brought Family Caregiving Experience, College Degree to Her Care Pro Job

Written By: Brian Lahm
Julie Bang, Caregiver

Julie Bang has a formal education in the caregiving field as well as more than five years of experience as a family caregiver. She brought both assets to Home Instead® of Collin County, Texas, in September 2023 when she became a Care Professional. One year later, Julie was selected as the award-winning franchise’s Care Pro of the Month.

While announcing Julie’s honor, Home Instead Care Pro Advocate Amanda Ross said: “Julie gets great compliments from her clients. She displays Home Instead’s guiding principles of ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ For this award, an employee has shown she has gone above and beyond the call of duty.”

During the summer of 2023, Julie’s husband took a new job in Texas, so their family moved from Kansas to Texas. While Julie was looking for a job, owner Todd Felker’s award-winning Home Instead franchise in Plano contacted Julie after seeing her résumé on a job website.

“Through my major in Public Health/Health Science, I learned about professional caregiving,” said Julie, referring to her magna cum laude bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University, which she earned while attending WSU from 2012 to 2017. Julie earlier had graduated with an associate’s degree in Science Liberal Arts from Butler Community College (Kansas) in May 2012. She also earned her CNA license in January 2012.

Before attending college, Julie was a store manager with 10 years of experience and a housekeeping manager with nine years of experience, both in Kansas. She effectively led retail and building management, driving sales, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Julie also faced family caregiving challenges. “My mother-in-law has suffered from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease,” Julie said. “I spent more than five years assisting her before I came to Texas. I took care of her with my sister-in-law. I have acquired many skills as a result of providing care for my mother-in-law, so I thought it would benefit Home Instead.”

For Julie, touching lives impacts her soul, whether she is providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if she is offering emotional support in a companionship role. “I like to take care of the infirmed and elderly people. I am so glad I can help people who are physically and mentally challenged,” Julie said.

Julie added: “When I see the Home Instead client with whom I work now, I think a lot about my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law. My client’s daughter took care of her mother for more than seven years. I think it’s really amazing. I can feel that she loves her mother a lot. So, I also think about my family and try to work more like a family member.”

Those who know Julie assert that she is a strong, positive person. “Even though I might have a difficult problem in front of me, I will try to change stressful situations by using positive thinking. I think worrying doesn’t help solve my problems. It is my wish to provide comfort to my client as if I were a family member,” Julie said.

Julie loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the Dallas-area franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros.
