Nancy Lutes decided to make a career change more than nine years ago.
She had been working at the same kind of job since she was 18 years old. Nancy’s tasks were predictable, even to the point of being monotonous. “I started getting really burned out doing the same job routine every day and seeing the same people every day,” Nancy recalled.
A friend saw something in Nancy that she hadn’t realized or considered. The friend, sensing Nancy’s employment discontent, finally said: “Nancy, you should take care of seniors because you have always had a soft spot for the elderly and would be a really good care provider.”
Voila!
Nancy said: “I took my friend’s advice and applied for a professional care-provider job and was hired. I am still working for that company and am now state-certified. To further explain, I have worked as a care provider for nine years and was searching for more overnight shifts when I found Home Instead® of Louisville on the internet. So, I have been a Home Instead employee for two years. Among other things, I enjoy listening to my clients’ stories about when they were growing up and how much harder their lives were compared to ours now.”
The award-winning Home Instead franchise of Boulder, Broomfield and northwest Adams Counties, which is owned by Michael Lammers, recently shined its spotlight on Nancy and her body of work. Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator Rianne Matthews announced that Nancy had been honored as the Home Instead office’s CAREGiver of the Month.
“Nancy, who works overnight shifts with us and with another agency, is an experienced care provider. With our Home Instead office, Nancy has been caring regularly for one of our longest-held clients. The client’s health has been declining while her family seeks to keep their senior loved one at home through the end of her life,” Rianne explained.
“At a recent quality-assessment visit with our care coordinator, the family mentioned several CAREGivers with whom they were happy, and Nancy was one who stood out. She is calm, consistent and compassionate. Nancy brings a great peace of mind to our client and her family.”
Nancy elaborated: “Since I have pretty much been with the same client since I was hired by Home Instead, I look at this job as if I am on a journey with my clients. No one knows how long our journey will last, but I will be with my client as long as they need me.”
For Nancy and her fellow Louisville CAREGivers, touching lives impacts their souls, whether they are providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care, or if they are offering emotional support in a companionship role.
Nancy loves being a part of the CAREGiver team for Michael’s Boulder-area franchise, a member of a highly successful network founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Paul and Lori Hogan. The Home Instead network is the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for seniors, with more than 1,200 independently owned and operated franchises that provide more than 80 million hours of care annually throughout the U.S. and 13 other countries.
Nancy is among more than 90,000 CAREGivers worldwide, and she has helped add to those numbers because of her strong belief in Home Instead’s purpose. It isn’t hard to see Nancy lives the Home Instead principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”
