Home Instead of Sonoma County, CA was excited to be featured in The Community Voice for our "Be a Santa to a Senior" Holiday Card Program!
Here are some excerpts from the article:
- The genesis of the “Be a Santa to a Senior” Holiday Card program was derived after the establishment in 2006 of Home Instead’s “Be a Santa to a Senior” Giving Tree program. “Seeing how generous our local community was towards our elder neighbors, I wanted to do more!” says Julie Ann Soukoulis, the owner of Home Instead.
- The Holiday Card program Home Instead developed and still executes annually, was a mirror of what Julie Ann witnessed with her own children’s elementary school creating holiday cards for the seniors who resided in a facility right next to their school. A light bulb went off and she thought- “that’s it! How wonderful would it be to marry the generations within our community in this small way.”
- Home Instead petitioned schools from Petaluma to Healdsburg to join us in making joyful and colorful holiday cards. The call to action by local teachers was so well received.
- The Home Instead “Elves” will be delivering the hundreds of decorated cards this year just before the Christmas holiday so that each senior will receive a loving message whether they are bed bound and it comes on their meal tray or at a gathering table in a festively decorated dining hall at tables with others. We are so grateful for the teachers who tirelessly add the “Be a Santa to a Senior” card program to their holiday classroom projects.
