Care Professional Training
Continuous Learning & Development
We’re committed to you and your future. That's why we provide robust training from day one.
We utilize in-person, virtual and on-demand training methods to meet all learning styles and give you the confidence to excel as a Care Professional. In addition, you'll receive ongoing learning opportunities to maximize your development.
Initial Care Professional Training
Home Instead® has pioneered senior care training that now represents the "gold standard" in our industry. When you join our team, you participate in a full-day orientation classroom instruction, including an initial basic training from our dedicated Corporate Trainer.
Your Day 1 training includes these topics:
- The Aging Process
- Safe Client, Safe Care Professional
- Building Relationships
Following your initial training, our commitment to your success shines through in our ongoing support and Care Pro resources:
- Monthly Care Pro newsletter packed with tips and senior care information
- Library of senior care reference materials and resources, online and in the office
- On-call telephone support any time of the day or night
Introduction Specialists
Ensuring you are set up for success extends beyond your training. That's why an Introduction Specialist will accompany you to your first shift with a new client. You'll receive an overview of the client's home, health/safety issues, the Client Journal and more. Moreover, your Introduction Specialist helps ensure a smooth introduction and a seamless transition.
In-Services
As a Care Pro, it's important to stay on top of the latest teachings and techniques. For this reason, we hold regular, paid in-services throughout the year, focusing on topics such as personal care training and Alzheimer's/dementia training. This represents our commitment to enhancing your knowledge, skills and experience through continuous learning.
On-Site Training
Together with our Corporate Nurse and Quality Assurance team, we provide on-the-job training as unique client situations, such as health and safety concerns, are identified. These hands-on learning opportunities will be scheduled with you, one on one, in a client's home or office training room.
Specialized Training
As circumstances warrant, we may occasionally offer tailored, highly specialized trainings on a variety of circumstantial situations, such as new products/services, equipment/technology usage, new protocols, health crises, etc.
Online Learning
Through our official online learning management system, you’ll access a unique learning experience tailored to your schedule and lifestyle, skills-development needs and expanding interests. That means you have greater flexibility to take the trainings you want, when you want to take them. All Care Pros are given 24/7 access to the vast training library, including mandatory trainings and additional learning opportunities.
Monthly Solutions Webinars
Attend free webinars and earn continuing education (CE) credits, which are offered in cooperation with the American Society on Aging. Credits are available for 60 days following the live event. Gerontologist & Caregiver Advocate Lakelyn Hogan, MA, MBA leads each virtual instruction. As topics rotate each month, guest speakers may also be present. Expanding Opportunities
Whether you are passionate about caregiving or are interested in expanding your horizons, we believe your career path should be both rewarding and fulfilling. Home Instead provides a variety of career options that impact the lives of families across our communities.
If you're ready to explore alternative roles or increased responsibilities, we'll collaborate with you to understand your goals, and customize a plan to ensure you're properly trained and developed for the next level. And you'll receive development feedback and continuous learning opportunities every step of the way.
As you experience our various trainings — from classroom to online — you're encouraged to give feedback to help us identify training opportunities that are important to you.
