January Professional Caregiver of the Month: Sheryl B.
While Sheryl has been with us for almost 2 years, she has been a caregiver since 1997 when she cared for her own grandfather who became very sick. Now she is building relationships with some very special seniors including one with whom she goes on long walks out in Golden and listens as he reminisces about his childhood. She says that helping them in little, simple ways and listening to them makes them happy. “Life is too short, so I always put myself in their shoes, and care for them with dignity and respect”, Sheryl says about her caregiving style. It helps her to appreciate every moment of her own life, she adds. Sheryl left the Philippines after graduating college and worked as a caregiver in Hong Kong for 5 years before relocating to Toronto where she also worked as a caregiver for 5 years. In 2008, she moved to Denver and worked as a CNA and caregiver before finding Home Instead Denver North through a friend who is also on our team! She has a 5-year-old son who is in kindergarten and keeps her busy, and she loves visiting the Philippines regularly to visit her family and friends back home. When asked to share one bit of caregiving advice with her fellow Professional Caregivers, Sheryl says, “Love your work with all your heart. Love your clients as you love your own family and treat them with respect and dignity.” Thank you for everything you do Sheryl. We are honored to have you on our team!
