Home Instead genuinely strives to provide the best home care in Fremont, CA. To us, that means staying involved in the Fremont community and always looking for ways to give back and be active with local seniors and community partners.

Our very own Shannon Chan, owner of Home Instead of Fremont, CA and President of the Fremont Rotary Club recently spearheaded an effort to provide 16,500 masks to local organizations to hand out to the most vulnerable and the most needed groups and heroes in the local community as soon as possible.

The Fremont Rotarians established a target list of who was in the most need. The protective masks were delivered to hospitals, COVID-19 testing centers, the local fire departments, nursing homes, food pantries and restaurants.

The mask project came together when the original service project "Kids Against Hunger," that the Fremont Rotary had scheduled for April 30 could not take place, due to the Shelter in Place directive given on March 16.

Club President Shannon Chan did not want the money to sit in an account when she knew there were immediate needs that could be met in the Fremont community. She contacted District Global Grants Chair, Jon Winston, and he gave a green light to move forward with a project to help in the COVID-19 crisis, as long as it used the full $5,000 originally allocated for the KAH project.

After a ZOOM meeting with Area 3 Assistant Governor Lisa Lorenz and several other Presidents, a plan was agreed on. Chan made a call to the mask supplier Wayne Wong of Dental Gloves On Sale, (a Bay Area supplier of medical gloves and masks) and was able to secure a total of 16,500 masks! Within 48 hours they went from idea, to concept to delivery.

"Our goal was to get the masks delivered to the most vulnerable and the most in need organizations in the Fremont community as soon as possible until more community resources become available," said Chan. "The exchange between the Fremont Rotary Club and local organizations was truly an inspiration."

On April 15, Shannon had the opportunity to visit the Fremont, CA Fire Department with one of these mask donations! It was truly a pleasure to support these local heroes during this time of trial in our community.
