Home Instead® Care Professional of Month Keisha Henderson describes her pay-it-forward philosophy in life succinctly and thoughtfully from a senior-care professional’s perspective: “Be kind, be patient, give hugs, show love and respect, and have compassion because you never know who you may need or have to depend on before leaving this world.”
Keisha added: “When I think of my favorite memories with Home Instead clients, those memories would boil down to knowing that someway, somehow, I’ve been able to make a difference in their lives. I enjoy engaging in many conversations and listening to them reminisce about their lives’ journeys. One of the amazing things about working as a Care Pro is forming bonds not only with clients but their families as well.”
Keisha has been in the medical field for many years and started as a CNA at a nursing facility, but she found home health was more fitting for her. “I had been employed elsewhere, but I stumbled upon Home Instead, which offered the flexibility I needed,” said Keisha, who joined Home Instead® of Collin County in September 2020. Todd Felker owns the award-winning franchise based in Plano, Texas.
In addition to being a senior-care professional, Keisha has served as a family caregiver. “My experiences in caregiving included being able to assist in the care of both my grandfather and father who passed away two years apart. My father had been placed on hospice briefly while battling cancer,” Keisha explained.
“What I enjoy most about being a Home Instead Care Pro is that our owner and office staff members are very supportive of their employees, and they provide opportunities for growth and access to training classes. It’s not only beneficial for the Care Pro, but for our aging seniors as well,” Keisha said.
Home Instead Care Professional Advocate Amanda Ross said: “Keisha has been consistently successful with us at Home Instead for nearly three years. Keisha is a busy mother and has been with the same clients since she started. She was an amazing comfort to a client when her husband passed. Thank you for all you do, Keisha!”
Among the considerations for achieving Care Pro of the Month status, an employee has shown she has gone above and beyond the call of duty, Amanda pointed out. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Keisha embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” She is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client, Amanda emphasized.
In addition to her strong companionship skills, Keisha provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Keisha offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By expertly doing so, Keisha and her fellow Care Pros not only assist their clients, but help their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.
Keisha loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the Collin County franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pros across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
