Fikerte “Fifi” Beshah has been honored as a Care Professional of the Month at Home Instead® of Collin County, Texas, for a number of reasons. Among Fifi’s many strengths are her warm personality that often creates instant bonds with her clients, as well as her patience and flexibility that’s needed to win over challenging clients.
“I have a client who thinks I am her close family member,” Fifi explained “She always asks me to ‘sleep over,’ eat with her and choose what to watch on television.”
Fifi added: “On the other end of the spectrum, I went to assist another client, where there are mobility difficulties, and he thought I wouldn’t be able to move him around. In fact, the client said, ‘You are too small to move me.’ ”
Fifi recalled her quick but confident reply: “I told him, ‘I work with my heart not my hands.’ Then he laughed, and I was able to help him move around just fine.”
With a theme of “everything will be just fine,” reassurance and unmatched caregiving skills are what a client will receive with an acclaimed and experienced Care Professional such as Fifi. For Fifi, touching lives impacts her soul, whether she is providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if she is offering emotional support in a companionship role. Fifi stretches even more to be the best.
Among the considerations for achieving Care Professional of the Month status, an employee has shown she has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Fifi embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” She is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client.
Home Instead Care Pro Advocate Amanda Ross said, “Fifi is an absolute sweetheart. She usually has consistent clients for long term. She is quiet, soft-spoken and humble.”
Fifi had extensive senior-care experience when she joined owner Todd Felker’s award-winning franchise in 2021. “I have been a Home Instead Care Pro for two years and six months. “I had been in professional caregiving for 12 years before working at Home Instead. For the most part, I had worked as a private-duty caregiver, but I have also worked for agencies.”
Fifi added: “I first saw Home Instead on a television commercial and decided to apply for a job. After applying, I did the interview, and Home Instead gave me the schedule and hours I wanted, so I started to work.” Fifi praised the Home Instead office that is located in Plano, saying: “The Home Instead staff is very professional, understanding, flexible and organized.”
Fifi noted that she has had a mix of family caregiving as well as professional experiences, and she views every person for whom she cares as if he or she is a relative. “I have cared for my mother while she was sick. She was living in Maryland, so I went there to care for her for four months before she passed away. Then I came back to Texas. Caring for the clients as if they were my own family and seeing their happiness makes me happy. I always feel as if I am visiting a family when I go to work.”
Fifi loves being a part of the Care Pro team for Todd’s franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros.
