Care Professional of the Month ChaTamberlyn Williams has made a huge impact with Collin County seniors and their families in less than a year with Home Instead® in Plano.
ChaTamberlyn, who has served as a family caregiver for her great-grandmother, always has wanted to help others, and she has had dreams of being a doctor. The Home Instead staff and ChaTamberlyn’s clients are thrilled she has chosen to assist others as part of the franchise’s award-winning senior-care team.
Home Instead Marketing Coordinator Rachel Herman said: “ChaTamberlyn jumped right in from the beginning and is doing an excellent job. She has blossomed into one of our main go-to Care Pros. She also has been recognized for our ‘Share the Love’ program twice. ‘Share the Love’ is generated as a result of weekly Care Pro recognition from clients who provide positive feedback. One of her clients stated, ‘ChaTamberlyn is wonderful, and we are so grateful to have her.’ Another client told us, ‘We are so pleased with how everything went yesterday with ChaTamberlyn. She is very sweet and attentive!’ ”
Before finding Home Instead, ChaTamberlyn had worked at an assisted-living facility in Garland. “I was looking for a job that was flexible in all areas of life, a job that would provide an opportunity to not only be flexible in the workplace but also in my personal life. During my year of working with the assisted living facility, I learned the ins and outs of properly taking care of not only my loved ones but also taking care of someone else’s loved ones,” said ChaTamberlyn, who joined owner Todd Felker’s Home Instead franchise June 4, 2021.
Prior to stepping into the caregiving profession, ChaTamberlyn attended the Texas Woman’s University in Denton, where she was majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. She said, “I had plans of attending medical school to become a doctor. Specifically, I had plans to become a neurosurgeon, but because of financial reasons, I had to come back home.”
Once ChaTamberlyn was back home, she worked at a grocery store in downtown Dallas. “While working there,” ChaTamberlyn said, “I was helping my mom take care of her grandmother, who is my great-grandmother, as she was transitioning to living with us. Before resigning from my grocery-store job, I applied to many different jobs in the health field. I was eventually given the opportunity to work at the assisted living community in Garland. At the beginning of 2020, my great-grandmother had to stay with my family. We all took turns caring for her until she displayed behavioral symptoms that made it hard for my family to balance her needs and our personal and work needs.”
Helping her great-grandmother and meeting her challenges served as a valuable experience, just as work at the assisted living community was. Referring to Home Instead, ChaTamberlyn said, “It wasn’t long after starting at this job that I realized that taking care of someone and being a caregiver was something I truly enjoyed. The thing I like most about being a Home Instead Care Pro is being able to make a difference and being able to learn from clients and their experiences. Each client has a different background. With that comes a new opportunity to gain a different perspective on life.”
Among the considerations for achieving Care Pro of the Month status, an employee has shown he or she has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. ChaTamberlyn embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” She is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client.
One of ChaTamberlyn’s favorite client stories comes from an Italian native who had two children in Italy before moving to America. “After moving to the U.S., the client had five more kids. She and her family lived in Detroit, Michigan, where she had a garden, grew her vegetables and made everything from scratch, including tomato sauce for spaghetti. Whenever her kids were hungry, she made sure their friends and family also ate,” ChaTamberlyn said. “Since I’ve come to assist her, every time it’s dinnertime, she always makes sure I eat just as she does. She has dementia, but she never forgets to make sure the people around her are fed and taken care of.”
