A veteran senior-care observer chalked up Home Instead® Care Professional of the Month Mary Quick’s assignment with one client as a clear and decisive victory. For most professional caregivers, stabilizing or slowing a client’s decline is considered a moral win.
“I fall in love with all of my clients,” Mary said, “but my favorite story would have to be a gentleman who had fallen and suffered a broken leg. It was very satisfying to help him with physical therapy and get him back on his feet. I am not sure exactly how long I assisted the client, but it probably was between 8 and 12 weeks. The gentleman was in his 80s, and he no longer needs Home Instead.”
For those who know Mary, the client’s success story was not surprising. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) years ago and worked exclusively at skilled-care homes. Mary joined Home Instead of Winchester a little more than two years ago after seeing the award-winning franchise’s Indeed.com advertisement. Owner Keith Clay’s Home Instead franchise serves Virginia’s Northern Shenandoah Valley.
Allyson Starling, who works in the Home Instead franchise’s human resources department and in recruitment and retention, announced in August 2022 that Mary had been honored as the office’s Care Pro of the Month.
Perhaps clients can feel Mary’s compassion and empathy on the first day she shows up to assist them. Those are two of the characteristics that are evaluated when a Care Pro is considered for the employee of the month award. Of course, there are others. Has the Care Pro gone above and beyond the call of duty? Does the Care Pro possess the skills and wisdom to be highly successful? Is the Care Pro exceptional at her work with any client? Finally, does the Care Pro focus on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving? In other words, does the Care Pro work at getting better?
For Allyson, the answers were yes. When Allyson announced Mary had been honored as Care Pro of the Month, Allyson said Mary displays Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”
Mary said: “Taking care of the elderly is in my blood. I took care of my husband’s grandfather in our home until his death. Working for Home Instead, I love the one-on-one interaction with clients.”
Overall, Mary loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the Winchester franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor. With the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform, Honor and Home Instead are revolutionizing care for older adults, their families and Care Pros. Combined, the network has more than 100,000 Care Pros across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide.
“I plan on working with Home Instead until I retire,” Mary said.
