Meet Verla and her Professional CAREGiver, Michelle, Nashville’s Spotlight Team for August! Verla has worn many hats throughout her life, from beautician to housewife to pastor’s wife. She was a big part of her husband’s ministry, which took them from Montgomery, Alabama to Nashville. Michelle was a preschool teacher for 30 years before praying about a career change and being led to Home Instead.
A typical day for Ms. Verla and Michelle begins with a hug and then breakfast. Sometimes Michelle will surprise Ms. Verla with a bacon, egg, and cheese from McDonalds. They will then go to the park and see the ducks or do some word searches or adult coloring books. They both love to talk and have good conversations on the Bible. For lunch they like to go to Subway, Chick-Fila, or eat soup and salad at home. Ms. Verla’s daughter, Denise, says they trust Michelle wholeheartedly. She says, “Michelle is lively, vibrant and always has a smile on her face”. Michelle even made time on her workday to come by for Ms. Verla’s 90th Birthday Parade! Denise says the scripture from Nehemiah comes to mind when the thinks of Michelle, “Do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength”. Michelle has joy in her heart, and it shows. We are lucky to have her here at Home Instead and we hope she continues her journey with us for a long time to come!
