Richard Y. is our CareProfessional for April

Richard was inspired to work for Home Instead after taking care of his elderly father. Richard’s father had to leave Florida once he couldn’t take care of himself, fortunately, his neighbors kept a close eye on him and were able to keep Richard up to date on his status. Richard said it was a pleasure to have his father move in with him and his young family. He enjoyed taking care of him and learned a lot about taking care of an elderly person.

Richard’s favorite part about working with seniors and providing Elder care is engaging in conversations with them. He says it’s always interesting talking with seniors and hearing their thoughts, and ideas and learning about the environment they grew up in and their experiences. Also, Richard says it’s heartwarming to know your client really loves you and looks forward to seeing you.

He suggests you get outside and go for walks with your client. He and Mr. George go for walks around his neighborhood.

Richard recalls having fun working on jigsaw puzzles with a past client. She was a 92-year-old lady who still drove and met her friends for brunch every week!

Richard’s current client, Mr. George, has inspired him the most. Last year Mr. George had a brain tumor removed. Richard said he and his client get along very well, and he can see the warmth in Mr. George’s heart when Richard arrives in the morning.

While Richard is providing Elder care to Mr. George, he is also providing Respite care for the client’s wife.

Richard’s advice to other Care Professionals is to get to know your clients and interact with them just like you would with a very close family member.

Richard hasn’t felt the stress that can come with being a Care Professional. He says he enjoys it and loves seeing his client, he does feel the stress of fighting the morning rush hour traffic on I-270!!
