Rich History Lesson: Care Pro Abigail’s Client Dated Elvis
Rock star Elvis Presley has been gone 47 years, but conversation about the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll has piqued Home Instead® Care Professional of the Month Abigail Turner’s interest in the world-renown rock star. One of Abigail’s clients knew Presley … and dated him.
“She is a memorable client. When I was working with her, she was telling me she had met Elvis on a night out with her friends. He drove her home and later took her out on a few dates,” said Abigail, marveling at firsthand knowledge of the larger-than-life figure who was inducted into five Halls of Fame and recorded more than 150 albums.
“I love getting to hear all of the different stories and experiences my clients have to share. I really enjoy helping make my clients’ daily lives easier, and giving them the companionship they wouldn’t receive without Home Instead’s services. I love when I have one certain couple. I get to hear how they met, what life was like for them, their travel adventures, and people they’ve met and encountered along the way in life.”
Abigail wouldn’t dispute the notion that her life has changed since January 2023, when she joined Home Instead of Clearwater, an award-winning franchise owned by Julie Castle.
Abigail explained: “I was looking for an opportunity to see if the healthcare field was the right fit for me. I received Home Instead’s job offer, and I loved the fact that they offered such a flexible schedule as well as many training programs for the job. As a result, I began working for them. I have an Associate of Arts degree, but I was looking into healthcare when I joined Home Instead. Now I am on the journey to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).”
Senior care wasn’t totally foreign to Abigail when she joined the Home Instead franchise that serves Pinellas County, including St. Petersburg, Clearwater Beach and 17 other cities. “I’ve always found myself enjoying a caregiving role. I helped my grandma quite a bit before she passed,” Abigail said.
In May 2024, Director of Care Professional Services JC Crady announced Abigail had been honored as Care Pro of the Month. Among the considerations for achieving the award, an employee has shown she has gone above and beyond the call of duty, JC pointed out. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the honor, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations.
Abigail embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.” She is someone who is exceptional at her work with any client. Home Instead’s core values are: “Treat each other with dignity and respect, encourage growth in ourselves and others, and continually build value in our service to others.” JC said: “It’s easy to see all of those values in Abigail’s sweet spirit.”
For Abigail, touching lives impacts her soul, whether she is providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if she is offering emotional support in a companionship role. Focusing on Home Instead’s training, processes and procedures of successful caregiving also helped Abigail achieve Care Pro of the Month status.
Abigail loves being a part of the Care Pro team for the Pinellas County franchise, a member of a network comprised of Home Instead, Inc. and its parent company, Honor.
